So much time and so little to do

Scratch that, reverse it.

This weekend I got so much done that I am completely surprised at myself. I got two loads of dishes, four loads of laundry plus some hand wash, grocery store trip, got my class registration for SVFF filled out and in the mail. I baked two loaves of banana bread, deposited money in the bank, bought fruit at the farmer's market, and took a nice leisurely trip to the library. I took my family to Middleburg to see my father for lunch and went out to Gander Mountain and Home Depot after dinner. Then I finished knitting my weekly ball of afghan yarn.  That was Saturday.

Sunday, I cleaned my floors and my kitchen table and had friends over for tea and banana bread. Then cleaned some more while the boys napped plus two more loads of laundry. (Laundry multiplies when you are on vacation.) I finished knitting Bear's socks.  Then, my parents in law came over and we all went out for dinner.  While there, I think I found Bear's Christmas gift.  PIL left to go home and I did some gardening. (My poor yard needed it.) The boys helped (along with my Brother and my fabulous neighbor) and we all needed a major bath after playing in the dirt. I finished reading a book that is due back at the library. Then I contacted the artist about Bear's possible gift.  Now I am blogging about it all while working on this week's ball of yarn (ball 9 of 12.)

Honestly,  I need to find out how to bottle this energy. I needed a weekend like this to catch up but I am afraid I will pay for it tomorrow. Wish me luck. Hugs to all!

Hello from NY

Just a quick note to say how much fun I am having in NY.  Despite the traffic, my hyper/ cranky children and my snoring mother, I am having a pretty good time.  We are going to PA tomorrow to an amusement park then drive home on Monday.

I am getting some knitting and got my yarn ball of the week knit up on my throw blanket.  That is the second week in a row.  I have four more skeins of bulky yarn to go.  Good Lord willing, in a month, I will have a blanket.

Happy Birthday, Mermaid!

One of my very best friend's birthday is today. She is one of the most caring and compassionate people I know. I met her in spring of 2008 in a LYS and she slowly made herself an integral part of my life.
She can find four leaf clovers anywhere we go.  She makes pumpkins into cartoon cars and yarn into monkeys.  She is an extroverted introvert.  She is my color consultant and she has great taste in food.  She is as steady as a rock and always ready to laugh.  I am very blessed to be her friend as she has brought so much joy to my life and into the lives of all the people with which she surrounds herself.

Hope you have a happy birthday, Ms Mermaid!

Sock and Sockibility

There was once a fine knitter who professed her undying love to a ball of sock yarn. She spoke to this yarn about future walks in the countryside and evenings spent in the parlor. Then she wrapped the brightly colored wool around her needles with unbridled passion.

However as the days passed the folly of this entanglement led to disquiet while obligation required her continuation of the engagement.

This same knitter, in months past, had promised a close friend that upon the latter quitting the foul habit of smoking tobacco that the former would decree to consent to produce varicolored socks for the latter. A missive came that the friend was now free from the odious weed and so the knitter took up another set of needles and sock yarn of more muted tones for her friend.

Blue and Brown sock

While in full knowledge that these socks being intended for another, she could not fail to see in the new sock all the amiable and irristible qualities that she could not find in her own attachment. She lamented to her dearest companion, whom she could share her deepest secrets, about all her woes.

The dearest companion, who is wise and knowledgable in all affairs of this nature, said without a moments hesitation,

"Just give your friend those rainbow socks and you keep the brown and blue ones that you like better. She won't know the difference, she likes bright colors anyway and you will be happy."

The knitter, in submitting to the new attachment could only hold her bosom buddy in the highest regard and esteem. She will forever be in the debt of this mentor and will owe her fresh bread and home churned butter all the days of her life...

Or maybe not.

Zero to Sixty

If you look at my Ravelry page or this blog, you would think I have been lazy all month.  Nothing would be farther from the truth.  I have been enjoying the warm weather, good friends and lots of family time.

This is not to say I haven't gotten any knitting done.  I just have nothing finished to show for it.  The photos of me knitting at MDSW have the same sock that is now in my purse.  I have had to frog it back 3 times due to gauge/ measurement issues and I just cast off the FIRST sock.

I am on my third colorwork fingerless mitt because the first one is much bigger then the second and cannot be called a pair. It is my own fault for switching needles. The needles were the same size but different materials.  It obviously made a difference.

On a side note, I love my Blackthorn Needles.

Also on needles, I have a bulky blanket that will never end, a cotton baby blanket and a colorwork Christmas stocking.

On top of all this, I am going to attempt to do a 5K stash dash that is going on over at the Knit Girllls Ravelry group. This means you try to knit up 5 kilometers of yarn before 8/15/2011. WIPs count as log as you cast off during stash dash.  The above projects make up only 4,748 yards when I finish them and so I will need to add around 1,000 yards to make the 5K.

I should be able to get my socks and fingerless mitts done in the next week. Wish me luck!

MDSW

I am going to be at MDSW on Sunday!! (May 8th, 2011)

My hope is to go in every building and barn. I think I will start my day at the main barn and work my way back, stopping around noon to go back to my little blue car and get my lunch. At some point during the day, I hope to watch some sheep to shawl action, get ribbon chips and lemonade. I plan to wear the sweater in my ravatar with dark blue jeans and sneakers but it will depend on the weather. I will be going with my close friends and my mother. We will be smiling or laughing, no doubt.

If you spot me, please stop me and say hello. I always love seeing old friends and making new ones.
